I have always enjoyed the aspect of impossible shapes and I wanted to make a game around that. Since my 3D skills are not brilliant and I do not have a lot of code experience my best idea was to play around with perspective and what appears as close or is further away. I knew Monument Valley was roughly similar in concept therefore I thought that would be a good reference for both my strategy coding as well as visual cunnundrumness. 

For my character I just relied on what I remembered and struck me most during my childhood, two absurd and yet very existential stories, Habarnam and The Little Prince. I wanted my character to resemble the protagonists in these stories and fuse the theme of loneliness with that of utmost curiosity and pure childlike wonder.

Overview & Core Loop

Scene will resemble a city that takes up a strange shape, buildings are up down left and right and all is crowded. There are several interactable elements but once you find them there is no turning back if they open a path. You must continue with the journey as Kado will keep walking forward. Journey ends when character can no longer move forward/meets a dead end. Overall, the game requires to be replayed with the acquired knowledge for the opportunity of resolving the maze/finding a clear exit (since the game will infer there is such a thing)
 

Base Controls
Left click on different elements of the environment to activate them.
Right click: to get a hypothesis of what something does.
Esc: open up UI


 

Rules/Core Mechanics

Only objects that get highlighted when hovered over can be clicked or are interactable. If Kado moves forward he cannot go back until he reaches the end of his journey. Objects/interactable places can be explored prior to their full activation.

 

Secondary Mechanics

When character returns to the start, people will remember him during the second play. (only if game is not closed)If all main endings are found, one more ending will be available.
